Reflection on Terms

·

·         Balance: The picture or piece has a balanced feel. Whether it be the symmetrical, asymmetrical, or radial aspect of it. Symmetrical balance is where an image on one side is a reflection of the other. Asymmetrical is when one bigger item on one side is balanced by a couple of smaller items on the other. Radial balance happens when all elements emit out from the center of the picture.

·         Gradation: This is a progression from one color to another. Gradation can vary in tone, direction and/or method. It adds movement and excitement to the picture.

·         Repetition – This occurs when elements in the picture are repeated.

·         Contrast – The comparison of opposing elements.

·         Harmony – The elements relate to and complement each other. They may be next to each other on the color wheel.

·         Dominance – Emphasis given to a particular element in an image.

·          Unity - Combining similar elements in an image. This can include conveying a certain impression or create a desired mood. For example, unified text, colors, headlines, and/or navigation.
