Monk Speaks on Meditation
Los Angeles
Friday, July 13 – 05:43 PM ET
Meditation may increase health and immunity, according to
some authorities on the subject. Meditation “relieves stress, helps one focus
and strengthens the mind,” according to Buddhist Monk, Xin Xin Ming.
BUDDHA News had learned more about the benefits
meditation. Buddhist Monk, Xin Xin Ming says “It relieves stress, helps one
focus and strengthens the mind.”
Meditation Instructor, Sarah Mills said that meditation “may produce physiological
benefits by changing neurological processes. This finding was supported by an
expert panel at the National Institutes of Health. The practice of meditation
has been linked with various favorable outcomes that include: “effective
functioning, including academic performance, concentration, perceptual
sensitivity, reaction time, memory, self-control, empathy, and self-esteem.”
The word meditation is derived from the Latin verb
“meditari,” meaning to think, contemplate, devise, and ponder. Meditation is
used for many reasons and practiced by those in several religions. It is used
within Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and even for simple
exercise. When asked the purpose of meditation, Ming responded, “Meditation is
a practice in which an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of
consciousness, either to realize some benefit or as an end in itself.
Prehistoric civilizations used repetitive, rhythmic
chants and offerings to appease the gods.
BUDDHA News invites everyone to our Mediation 101 Camp this
summer in Los Angeles, California. We will be teaching a variety of different
breathing exercises and posture techniques to enhance the meditation
experience.

NGUYEN: I want you to close your eyes, cross your legs
and adjust your posture. Now, picture a beautiful place with lots of scenery and
nature. Imagine this is a place with no worries or stress. Now, take a deep
breath and hold it. Release. Repeat this five times.
Take a deep breathe. Hold. Release.
Take a deep breathe. Hold. Release.
Take a deep breathe. Hold. Release.
Take a deep breathe. Hold. Release.
